The Takeover
Tuesday, February 27th, 2007Ever since the Golden Boy started laying golden eggs up and down California, it became apparent that everything this boy touches turns to gold. He has brought us countless cheers and thrills throughout his boxing career, he has kept us captivated through every battle that he was in. He along with Richard Schaeffer, Bernard Hopkins, Marco Antonio Barrera, and Shane Mosley are building an empire. Now aside from boxing, Oscar is still trying to give back to his neighborhood in East LA, where he once roamed the streets as a teenager, by trying to better the lives for youngsters and their parents. Last year, the Oscar de la Hoya foundation and Microsoft teamed up together and built a $1 million dollar grant for computer software. Through this grant, the foundation will receive a makeover to include new personal computers equipped with the Windows Vista operating system. The Oscar de la Hoya Foundation is a non profit organization committed to the development of children, families, and communities in Los Angeles. The Oscar de la Hoya and Microsoft Learning Center provides thousands of children with a safe and positive educational training environment, emphasizing self- esteem and success through hard work, dedication, good citizenship and school achievement. This is all coming from a fighter, portrayed these days as a barbarian, just waiting for a chance to hurt someone or get in to some kind of trouble. However Oscar and his other partners do the opposite of what these professional athletes do these days, using drugs, carrying illegal firearms, domestic violence, and etc. These guys carry themselves like a true athlete should carry themselves. They are all responsible, civilized, and professional men. Weather these athletes like it or not, they are all viewed by kids as their role models, and Oscar, Shane, Bernard, and Marco are all doing one hell of a job of giving kids an example on how to be responsible adults.
Now I have never been to their offices, but I hear that it is on the 67th floor of a building in downtown L.A. I can only imagine the view from the top, but I am willing to bet that the view from the 67th floor has got nothing on the view that awaits Golden Boy Promotions in the very near future.
