MONEY MAY SAYS IT’S NOT ABOUT THE ‘’MONEY'’
An hour ago The Associated Press has just confirmed through a letter that Floyd Mayweather jr. has just retired for good. Floyd stated in the letter that it is not about the money, and that he no longer needs ‘’money'’[imagine that]. With so many critics recently lashing out that Mayweather/De La Hoya 2 should not be made since it is not regarded in their eyes as a must have fight, well maybe this is Mayweathers way of proving to those critics that maybe just maybe it was the fight that needed to be made at this particular time.
Whether or not this is a Mayweather scheme to build up interest for the De La Hoya rematch is yet to be determined, that my friends is anyones guess. After all how big would it be if Hbo’s 24/7 happened to catch this moment on film, imagine this with me if you may. Oscar and Richard are playing golf on a course near the beach in Puerto Rico, when all of a sudden Richards phone rings,,,, Richard tells Oscar ‘’sorry, but I have to take this.'’ On the other end of the line is Leonard Ellerbe telling Richard that Money May has had enough and he will now retire, this time for good, then the camera zooms in to Richards half stunned face. Richard then hangs up the phone to tell Oscar the news, they both now leave the golf course together in total complete shock, the cameras now follow them directly into Oscars office as they gather around Oscars desk along with matchmaker Eric Gomez to brainstorm a list of new opponents for Oscars next fight in September.
It is then that Floyd sr. enters the room and looks directly into the camera and fires out a poetic line ‘’ I am the reason why my son was admired, and desired, it was I that showed him all the combinations in which he fired, so now after seeing that he can’t soar higher, realizing that he must face his daddy on the opposite corner…[short pause] he must now stay retired.'’ Oscar and the crew now begin to shoot out names and make some calls, they find the lucky Lottery ticket holder and announce his name, all this time 24/7 is still in communication with Money May, then suddenly in late July, Money May makes a call to Oscar and tells him that he has had a change of heart, Money May tells Oscar ‘’ I want to do this one last time, one more HUGE check before I hang them up, come on Oscar let’s both make this our very last fight, let’s retire together, let’s bill the card ‘’the Final Curtain'’. Oscar then calls Richard to tell the opponent picked that it looks like he didn’t have the lucky lottery numbers after all, and just like that the rematch is now bigger than ever before. Just in case Floyd is not bluffing this time, here is my list of potential Oscar opponents for September.
Shane Mosley- with Judah fighting Clottey in August and BALCO trying to tarnish his image, why not fight Oscar a third time? For Shane it’s either fight Oscar, or continue fighting Balco. In both cases this chapter must come to an end.
Vernon Forrest- If the viper can dust off Mora in dramatic fashion, why not go after the man that beat Mosley twice. Besides, the Venom that the viper is spitting out these days will surely help sell this fight.
Winky Wright- The only elite fighter in Oscars era that Oscar has yet to face. Winky is so desperate for a crack at Oscar, that he said that he would face Oscar at any weight. Let’s find out if he truly means it. In Winky, Oscar will face the man that dominated Trinidad and beat Mosley, 2 men that have wins over Oscar, talk about killing 2 birds with one stone.
Felix Trinidad- The much anticipated rematch 10 years in the making, let’s agree to a catchweight and make it happen.
Ricky Hatton- the fight with Malignaggi is not even close to being in ink, why not put the 2 fighters with the largest fan base against each other? Both Hatton and De La Hoya have both said that they would love to fight in front of the largest crowd ever, so why not make the fight in Mexico, in Mexico lies a stadium that sits an amazing 110,000 something. Hatton has said that he will never fight at 147 ever again, well there will now be 20 million reasons why he will.
Manny Pacquiao- Pac-man fights Diaz later this month which might rule him out of the sweepstakes but then again for like 12-15 million, Pac-man may settle to train for just 2 months to make this fight happen. For Oscar it will help him capture the hard core Mexican fans he lost when he beat the Great Julio Cesar Chavez.
