Kelly Pavlik vs. ?
After Kelly Pavlik blasted through Locket and left him on bended knee [literaly] the questions began, who will Arum and the crew put him up against next? Another walk through opponent? Or will they go back to the bone crushing fights like Taylor and Miranda? Well the latest rumor is that Paul Williams might get the call next. If I am Goosen however maybe in this case it would be best to think of short money instead of long money.
I do commend Williams for taking the challenge and believing in his skills enough to want to take the jump, but sometimes when your on the edge about to jump reality is a bitch and I heard that she bites [What up Common]. One should also give Arum his due for seeing the pick and taking the shot, great move for Arum and Pavlik. As for Goosen and Williams, what will the next move be if you get knocked off the bridge in dramatic fashion? You will then have to rebuild that bridge and come back down from 160 to 147 and start all over again. If history has taught us anything it’s that it will repeat itself time and time again, Let’s revisit Roy Jones. Jones was living high and fighting with fire, he felt damn near invincible. So Jones jumped up to heavyweight made quick work of Ruiz and then he moved right back down to his original weight, it was there that reality surfaced in the form of Antonio Tarver. Any one at welterweight would be in danger of getting punished by the Punisher, but at 160 he faces a whole different beast. Williams may feel invincible after sneezing on Quintana, but Williams must know that reality will appear in the form of Pavlik.
The Five fighters that should get ink to face Pavlik are:
Winky Wright- Mr. Arum if your reading, offer Winky more than 1 mil, offer him at least 3-5 mil and Winky would love to give Pavlik all that he could handle.
Arthur Abraham- King Arthur and Pavlik would make for a very exciting fight. Nuff said.
Mikkel Kessler- This has toe to toe written all over it, Calzaghe admitted that going toe to toe with Kessler was all wrong for him so he then decided to box the viking, however something tells me that Pavlik will not have a plan B.
Lucian Bute- Bute hits like a ton of bricks, Pavlik hits with dynamite in his hands, somethings gotta give.
Allan Green- To me of these five mentioned, I feel that Green should get the call. #1. Arum knows that styles make fights, so why feed the ghost to the boogyman in Winky? #2. Arum has said that he would love to make a Abraham-Pavlik fight, however everytime it’s mentioned he always says sometime in 09 so looking at my callendar it still reads 08 so scratch Abraham out. #3. If Kesslers handlers were making outragous demands in trying to land Miranda, imagine the demands in fighting a bigger name than Miranda. #4. In Bute, I may be the only person that wants to see that fight, besides Arum would ask, Who is Lucian Bute? So in Allan Green, Pavlik would be facing a well known fighter who’s only loss is to Miranda, plus in Green, Mr. Arum will not have to put up the kind of GREEN that he would have to put up for Wright, Kessler, and Abraham. Green always looks ready for a scrap, so give Sweetness a call and something tells me that he would love the chance to try and take Pavlik’s straps.
