Mosley-Mayorga & Berto-Forbes Predictions

Friday, September 26th, 2008

Andre Berto vs. Steve Forbes- In this fight I look at it as Berto’s first real test. No doubt about it that Berto has the speed, power, and youth, but Forbes has the ability to out think the animal. In Forbes last fight he took hard solid shots from Oscar at 150, Oscar may no longer be in his prime but Oscar can still crack. As hard as Berto hits I don’t think that he will be able to knock out the iron jaw of Forbes. If Forbes can jab plenty then I see Forbes giving Berto a boxing lesson, in saying that Forbes is more of a crafty vet who sneaks his way to the inside so I don’t expect Forbes to jab plenty. I see Berto and Forbes going the distance with Berto winning in a close fight. I for one still would not be surprised if Forbes lets the jab out of the pocket and beat Berto with crafty experience boxing.

Shane Mosley vs. Ricardo Mayorga- Mayorga to me right now looks like he is in the best shape of his life, do not let his past fool you. Yes, Mayorga looked sluggish in his last fight versus Vargas, and yes he couldn’t knock out the glass jaw of Vargas, but a huge reason for that was because Mayorga was forced to fight Vargas at 166 the extra weight made Mayorga look slow and out of shape. Had the fight been at 154 or even at 160, Mayorga would have knocked out Vargas inside 9 rounds. Mosley on the other hand always seems to be in great shape, Mosley feels that at 154 his power is greater than it is at 147. At 37 years old, every single fight for Mosley must now be a back against the wall must win fight for him. Even at 37 I am still going to pick Mosley in this shootout, an out of shape Mayorga wouldn’t last 5 rounds, but since Mayorga seems to be in top shape I am picking Mosley to knock out the filthy mouthed slugger by the 10th round.
