What’s up Victor how is it going man, you out hitting the gym or are you on vacation, taking some time off until next year?

Oh no bro I am actually back out in Kansas right now, hitting the gym you know trying to stay in shape. I always try to stay in shape man you know I mean. I am always ready to fight. No vacation for me man, until  I am the champ!

Cool man I like to hear that with young fighters, Victor whats your walk around weight right now and do you see yourself fighting anything above 140lbs?

I walk around at 152 lbs and you know as far as fighting of course I want to win the belt first at 140 lbs then of course I will go to 147lbs but 154 will be my limit. But I want to take care of business first at 140lbs.

Victor now lets get to the point, lets take away the management, the promoters, and all the politics in boxing and lets get down to the truth, who does Victor Ortiz have to fight to be considered a true championship contender and not just a prospect, or better yet who do you want to fight in 2009, cause honestly the average fan dont know Jeff Resto, your recent vicitm even though he has a great record 22-3 not a household name, now I believe if you fight a legit champion contender in your next fight and smash him, Victor Ortiz has made it.

You know what Sam, honestly bro I dont pay attention to all the media the politics, and the other stuff for real man. I honestly just come to fight man, my management just tells me man you fighting this guy and I will be like cool just get me some tapes on him and I am ready man. I don’t really know any of the fighters out there besides like maybe Ricky Hatton, Ricardo Torrez, and Timothy Bradley, but I like I said I dont pay attention to any of that, it just takes away what I love doing and thats to box bro. But they are talking about putting me up against Vivian Harris for next year.

Cool man I respect that, now aside from your only loss on your record, which to everyone already knows that it wasn’t really a loss. (victor was disqualified for knocking the guy out after breaking from a clinch) You have a draw with Marvin Cordova (20-0-1) which you guys fought out here in Phoenix, Arizona at the Dodge Theatre back in 2007 do you feel like you have to get that back from him or are you past that?

Naw man you know I am way past that, Marvin had that chance to fight me again but he didn’t go for it, so like I said I am past that. I want to fight better fighters than that you know what I mean, and its not that he is not a good fighter its just that there are better ones out there.

All right bro, here it goes you know this question was coming. After sparring with both Manny and Oscar for this fight that happend last week, honestly did you already have a feeling this was going to happen like this?

No, not at all.You see i sparred with Manny Pacquiau for his second fight with Eric Morales and I gave him a putaso on him. He was way more easy to hit than Oscar, cause Oscar was tricky man, also quick I could not hit him as much. They were both dangerous fighters, I could not tell you who was going to win 100 %. I could not tell you that Manny was going to knock out Oscar or also tell you that Oscar was clearly going to hurt Manny. 

 Ok, what about the black eye that Oscar sported at training camp. Who gave it to him Edwin Valero or you, rumor has it that there was suppose to be footage of you and him sparriing but it was edited out, that it got too rough?

I was in there for the first three weeks and  we had some good sparring bro, but as far as giving him the black eye I dont know but I do know that I did get him a couple of times. I did my job thats for sure.

Hey well Victor you keep doing what you doing man, and we will keep pushing you out there cause like I said man I think this next fight you got coming up is going to be your fight that’s going to push you to star status and after that sky is the limit man. We may have the next Golden Boy on our hands.
